In our ‘Open House’ revisits, we meet the owners of some of the houses we have sold, to see why they bought them and how life has changed since!
Here, Martyn and Angela Yorke invite us into their Grade II listed barn conversion, to tell us why they decided to buy this particular property and make it their permanent family home.
This truly is a beautiful house, how did you come across it?
Angela – The house came up on Rightmove first of all, and I saw that it was with My Place in Cornwall.
I’d been speaking to Candice quite a lot in looking for property so I gave her a call and we chatted through what the place was and where it was.
To be honest, it was just amazing because this was a Friday afternoon at four o’clock when it popped online and by Saturday morning, we were in here at eleven o’clock, having spent five hours driving down to come and view the property, so to be able to do that was just brilliant.
Martyn – The property was everything we wanted, and we put an offer in that afternoon.
What was it about this particular property that made you realise it was the one?
Angela – It was opening the front door and seeing the stone floors, that go all the way through in the kitchen, that was really nice wasn’t it Martyn?
And then once you went into the kitchen, there’s the stained glass on the door, so that again stood out.
Martyn – Coming in here and seeing the wood burner and the whole house was just much bigger from the inside than it is from the outside, it was just stunning.
The property was everything we wanted, and we put an offer in that afternoon.
Buying a property can be quite stressful, how did you find the whole buying experience?
Angela – We’d got to know Candice quite well through popping into My Place when we were down searching for property, so she really knew our situation in that we needed time to arrange viewings and things like that.
Martyn – The whole process was as painless as you can possibly get it, My place in Cornwall coordinated with the lawyers and the whole thing actually went through quite quickly.
Angela – They helped us find a local solicitor and surveyor to use so that was very helpful, as we aren’t from this area originally, so it was hard to know where to look. Having that advice was very handy.
We have moved down now and relocated the family to Cornwall. It is now, our place in Cornwall!
You both seem really happy, how has life changed since buying the house?
Martyn – Our life is completely changed because we bought this as a holiday home originally and we now live here full-time.
Angela – Well, I do!
Martyn – But the point is, we bought this as a holiday home, but actually once we had bought it and furnished it and decorated it, we decided we didn’t want other people living in our home.
Actually, we wanted to live in it, so we have moved down now and relocated the family to Cornwall. It is now, our place in Cornwall!
Angela – It is!
