Open House – 61 Retallick Meadows in St Austell

Our Open House Interviews take you into some of the houses we are marketing to see how their current owners feel about living there. Here, we talk to Chris and his wife Audrey about their immaculately presented four bedroom detached house in the sought-after town of St Austell.

Chris: “We moved to Cornwall to escape the hustle and bustle of the South-East and retire to one of our favourite parts of the world, and to be closer to our family in St Austell.

When we started our property search, we knew what we were looking for – a modern, substantial property with plenty of space for our family to stay, and somewhere we could call our forever home.

As soon as we walked through the front door I knew it was the one

When we came across Retallick Meadows, we were instantly wowed by the size of the house and the quality of the estate. Being familiar with Beazer Homes, we knew the quality of the build would be second to none, so we were looking at a quality product.”

Audrey “As soon as we walked through the front door I knew it was the one for us, and soon enough we were moving in!”

Chris “Number 61 has more than fulfilled all our needs with four good sized bedrooms and a study that doubles up as a fifth bedroom, plus a lovely blank canvas of a garden we have really made our own. After spending 20 years perfecting our last garden, I soon got stuck in!

The estate was what we would call “executive” with no through traffic and the house was not overlooked. The location being semi-rural was also a selling point for us with a fantastic park behind, which is ideal for dog walking and entertaining the grandchildren on sunny days!”

Audrey: “We had considered buying in other areas of Cornwall, but St Austell really worked for us for so many reasons. Not only being close to our family but close to the sea, the lovely Eden project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the camel trail and cliff walks.

The town itself is great with a fantastic cinema and the White River Place shopping centre with some well known shops, including a very good Wilko, which is handy for garden supplies. As we aren’t getting any younger, the doctors surgery being only a few minutes away from the house is also very handy!”

Chris: “When we want to venture further afield, the transport links are wonderful with easy access by car or train to Plymouth and Truro for city shopping visits, which is especially good at Christmas to enjoy a good old pantomime!

There are plenty of places to eat nearby, our favourite being The Kingswood restaurant at London Apprentice. Having been involved in catering, I am particularly fussy, but they always cater for everyone’s needs and it’s in a lovely location. We often celebrate birthdays and special occasions there.

We also love to visit nearby Charlestown where they filmed Poldark, which we are a fan of so it is nice to see it in the flesh. The harbour is especially lovely at dusk with all the lights twinkling.

We will miss everything!

Chris and Audrey: “We will be really sad to move, but due to health reasons we have found ourselves unexpectedly needing to live in a bungalow, but we really hope to be able to stay in the area.

We will especially miss the space the house gives us and the fantastic park, plus the convenience of all the facilities close by. We will miss everything!

It was an absolute pleasure to get to know Chris and Audrey a little better and find out what they love about their superb property in the sought-after town of St Austell.
