Cornwall is a surprisingly big county, which is why we all love to get out and about to explore areas we’re not always familiar with. One things for sure, wherever you go in Cornwall, the scenery never fails to amaze! Over the Easter weekend, Richard, our Managing Director, treated his family to a well earned weekend break at the 5 star lodge resort of Landal Gwel an Mor near Portreath. Here, Richard goes into more detail about why he thinks it’s a great place for all ages to enjoy, at any time of the year.
It’s always great to hop aboard a plane and jet off to somewhere in the Mediterranean, or even further afield, but more often than not, when the sun is shining in Cornwall, there’s simply no better place to be. When we aren’t at work, living in Cornwall can feel like you are on holiday every weekend and it’s just great!
On arrival at Landal Gwel an Mor, it was clear that the resort was run to very high standards and the team on reception couldn’t have been friendlier. The lodge was clean, spacious, tastefully decorated and had a lovely hot tub on the decking area outside the lodge.
There was even a complimentary bottle of wine in the fridge to welcome us, such a nice touch! My children were really excited to visit a new place and they loved the view from our terrace out towards Portreath beach.
The resort had plenty to do for adults and children alike. Peaceful fishing lakes for those who like to relax in the sun, a 9 hole golf course with each hole designed to replicate some of the worlds most famous golf courses and the lovely Terrace Restaurant and bar to enjoy a pint of Healeys Cornish Gold Cider!
The children were kept amused by the boules, croquet and mini golf lawn and when they needed to burn off some steam, they enjoyed the heated swimming pool, Base Camp soft play and Clip ‘n’ Climb centre. They also have wildlife activities at their own farm “Feadon Farm” where we could get up close and personal to the animals and hand feed foxes!
With the weather being warm and sunny for the entire weekend, we decided enjoy some stunning coastal walks down into Portreath and along the coast towards Hayle. The footpath to the beach runs directly through Landal Gwel an Mor and takes you on a picturesque woodland trail towards the village.
Portreath itself has a small harbour, stunning sandy beach and a few local shops to peruse. We enjoyed a light lunch at The Hub, just off the main beach before venturing back up the hill to the resort.
From the resort, much of West Cornwall is easily accessible by car with Hayle being just 8 miles west, St Michael’s Mount a 25 minute drive and St Ives just 12 miles away, making Landal Gwel an Mor the perfect base to explore everything that Cornwall has to offer.
In the evenings, we enjoyed BBQ’s on our terrace or stunning fresh food at the onsite restaurant which promotes the very best of locally sourced produce. I would highly recommend their handmade 8oz beef burger with chips and the kids loved the thincrust pizzas!
A lovely and relaxing weekend was had by all and with the early spring weather being so nice and warm, we even managed to get a great base tan, returning back to work as though we had spent a week in Med!
Thanks Landal Gwel an Mor, we shall be back again for more family fun!
